Horeke pub (oldest pub in NZ), Mangungu Mission (third largest treaty signing happened here), and a drive around the back of the Hokianga Harbour. The area of Horeke / Mangungu is pretty amazing. Site of the first commercial shipyard in NZ, NZ’s oldest post office, and site of NZ’s first murder trial. Across the harbour in Kohukohu is NZ’s first jail and NZ’s oldest bridge. Noooobody comes around these ways, so these places are largely forgotten.
