Julie Blanc, from the awesome paged.js team, just did an amazing presentation at the Digital Publishing Summit (EDRLab) in Paris. Slides here.

Neighbour James, Mitimiti, Panguru, working outside
There are a heap of churches in Northland. I’m firmly agnostic but I love checking these places out. They are often small and in very beautiful isolated places. Many are in ruins but many are also extremely well maintained, often built with kauri timber (now a protected tree). They are also, if maintained, open and you can walk in and around any time of day.
This part of NZ was the first to be be occupied by Maori and (much later) Pakeha (Europeans) alike. So the missions came to Northland and set up before the rest of the Europeans followed. So this part of NZ has a lot of churches with a lot of important history attached. Anyways… I find them kinda fascinating.
The following are photos of me working in my outside workspace, Rawene ferry landing, and Manuka flowers and Cabbage Trees 🙂

Some cool stuff with paged.js from the twitters
I quickly made this template for a #betterposter after seeing so many great examples led by @mikemorrison. This uses the {posterdown} #rstats package where you can create a beautifully designed poster, quickly and efficiently, using #markdown. See the ?at https://t.co/UsW4crrPZO pic.twitter.com/q1cxZ2yFfC

“The community is the main differentiator. The technology enabled the community to become a mature community, but now it is the community that makes PubSweet the logcal choice for building publishing platforms.”

25 years of Neural.it
Neural.it is a cool mag, still going 25 years later. I know Alessandro from years back but haven’t seen him for a long time. Truly lovely chap, and the fact he kept neural.it going after all this time is amazing.
neural.it covered the net.arts scene, hacktivism and various related scenes and ideas.
Good to see this news. I just renewed by subscription after many many years!
Horeke
Horeke pub (oldest pub in NZ), Mangungu Mission (third largest treaty signing happened here), and a drive around the back of the Hokianga Harbour. The area of Horeke / Mangungu is pretty amazing. Site of the first commercial shipyard in NZ, NZ’s oldest post office, and site of NZ’s first murder trial. Across the harbour in Kohukohu is NZ’s first jail and NZ’s oldest bridge. Noooobody comes around these ways, so these places are largely forgotten.

I presented at SSP recently, slides are here.
